Wasserturm im Volkspark Jungfernheide, Water tower in Berlin, Germany

The Wasserturm im Volkspark Jungfernheide is a freestanding brick tower in the Volkspark Jungfernheide in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, Berlin, completed in 1927. It is built from iron brick, decorated with sculptural details along its facade, and topped with a copper roof.

The park opened on May 27, 1923, becoming the first new public park built in Berlin during the Weimar Republic period, laid out on land that had previously been used for royal hunting and military drills. The tower followed a few years later, designed by Walter Helmcke and completed in 1927 to supply water to the park's fountains and facilities.

Near the tower's entrance stand two stone sculptures of bears with playful children, carved by Hermann Joachim Pagel from Muschelkalk limestone. A summer garden café operates right beside the tower, giving visitors a natural reason to linger in that corner of the park.

The park is easy to reach by S-Bahn to Jungfernheide station, followed by a short bus or walking connection to the entrance. Once inside, the paths are straightforward and the tower is visible from several directions as you walk through the green areas.

The original plan called for a viewing platform and a rooftop restaurant so visitors could look out over the park from the top. The architect Walter Helmcke shifted the design toward a taller, more expressive form and dropped those public functions from the final version.
