Rotes Schloss Wehrda

Rotes Schloss Wehrda is a castle from the 16th century with a rectangular footprint and distinctive features including a round staircase tower and mansard roof. The upper floor displays timber framing, and the red brick cladding defines its exterior appearance.

Construction occurred in the second half of the 16th century as a residential castle for the Herren von Trümbach family. The structure became an important part of the local landed estates landscape.

The castle takes its name from the red brick facade that catches the eye as you enter the village. This distinctive coloring makes it a recognizable landmark in the area.

The castle is now a privately occupied building located in Haunetal municipality in Hesse state. Those wishing to view the architecture from outside can observe it from the public road, but should keep distance and respect private grounds.
