North East Region, Administrative region in northern Ghana
The North East Region spans 18,800 square kilometers across northern Ghana, featuring savannas and agricultural lands with varying seasonal patterns.
Created in December 2018 through a referendum, the North East Region emerged from the division of the Northern Region with 99.8% voter approval.
The Mamprusi people form the largest ethnic group in the region, celebrating traditional events like the Damba Festival and Fire Festival.
The region contains six administrative districts, with Nalerigu serving as the capital city and primary governmental center.
The NaYiri Palace in Nalerigu stands as an architectural monument, representing the traditional leadership structure of the region.
