Corfu International Airport, International airport in southeastern Corfu, Greece.
Corfu International Airport is an international airport in southeastern Corfu, Greece, with a runway measuring 2,373 meters in length. The terminal includes 22 check-in desks and handles both scheduled and charter flight connections for more than four million travelers each year.
The airport began operations in 1937 with a 600-meter runway and was extended to its current length in 1959. Since then, the facility has served as the main gateway to the island for visitors from Europe and other regions.
This facility bears the name of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of independent Greece, reflecting the island's connection to Greek political history. Travelers enter the airport through a terminal marked by its Mediterranean architectural elements and proximity to the city.
The terminal sits about 2 kilometers from Corfu Town, with an average journey time of 10 minutes by bus or taxi to the city center. In late 2024 and early 2025, the runway will undergo reconstruction, causing the airport to close completely for commercial and private flights.
The runway runs parallel to the coast and offers passengers a direct view of the Ionian Sea and surrounding waters during the landing approach. This approach ranks among the lowest in Europe, bringing planes just a few meters above the treetops before landing.
