Karaiskakis Stadium, Football stadium in Piraeus, Greece.
Karaiskakis Stadium is a football ground in Piraeus, Greece, built with a modern bowl shape that seats over 33,000 people. The West Stand includes business areas and suites, while the remaining seating wraps around the pitch in a continuous ring that offers views of the grass from every angle.
The site originally served as a cycling track for the 1896 Olympic Games before it was rebuilt into a football ground in 1925 after Olympiacos club was formed. A full renovation in the 2000s turned the old venue into the current modern stadium, replacing earlier structures with an entirely new design.
The name honors Georgios Karaiskakis, a Greek general from the 19th-century independence war whose legacy continues through this ground's connection to local identity. Olympiacos supporters fill the stands with red and white colors during home matches, and songs echo across the bowl as fans create an atmosphere rooted in decades of club tradition and neighborhood loyalty.
The ground sits in Piraeus and connects to Athens and surrounding areas through several metro lines and bus routes. Parking for around 2,500 vehicles is available near the site, though traffic increases on match days.
The North Stand holds a memorial for nineteen fans who died during a match against AEK Athens in 1981. Below the seating, a shopping mall, forty VIP suites, and the Vammos restaurant operate year-round, making the site active even without matches.
