Ionia municipality, Former municipality in Chios island, Greece
Ionia is a former municipality on the southeastern side of Chios island, spanning a rural landscape. The area is shaped by several small settlements, with Kallimasia as the largest center.
The area was an independent municipality on Chios until the administrative reform of 2011. Since then it has been part of the larger Chios municipality and functions as a municipal unit.
Kallimasia served as the former administrative center and maintains traditional elements of island life. The surrounding villages of Nenita and Tholopotami shape the character of this rural region today.
The area is sparsely populated with a few villages scattered across the terrain. Visitors find a quiet rural setting best explored by private transport.
The area follows Eastern European Time, while the rest of Greece uses Central European Time. This unusual time zone distinction is a remnant of earlier administrative boundaries.
