The initial settlement was established around 7500 BC and developed into a major urban center with continuous habitation throughout different phases of Minoan civilization.
The palace complex features ceremonial halls, altars, and shrines distributed across various sectors, highlighting the religious significance within Minoan society.
The archaeological site welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, with summer hours from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and winter hours from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
The discovery of the burial complex Chryssolakkos produced a notable gold bee pendant, demonstrating the advanced metalworking skills of Minoan craftsmen.
