The institution was founded in 1828 by the Zosimas brothers and initially operated as a general school in a Turkish building near the old Jewish cemetery. It achieved Model High School status in 1937, becoming a leading educational institution in the Epirus region.
The school was known for teaching Greek, Latin, Italian, and French languages to its students. This broad language instruction set it apart from other educational institutions in the region and reflected its role as a center of intellectual life in Ioannina.
