Exaplatanos municipality, Former municipality in Pella Regional Unit, Greece.
Exaplatanos is a former municipality in Pella Regional Unit in northern Greece, covering about 422 square kilometers. The area consisted of multiple settlements and was part of the local administration before being incorporated into Almopia in 2011.
The area was a major settlement region in the early 20th century with diverse population groups from different religious and ethnic backgrounds. Administrative reforms in 2011 marked a turning point in the area's institutional history, as it lost its independence as a separate municipality.
The area carries place names rooted in different linguistic traditions, with Archangelos also known as Ossiani in Megleno-Romanian. This naming diversity reflects the layered population history of the region and its varied cultural ties.
The region once had an established infrastructure with postal code 58004 and telephone prefix 23840 for local communications. While many administrative functions have now shifted to Almopia, basic communication services remain available throughout the area.
The area was home to a significant Pomak Muslim community in 1912 that numbered over a thousand residents and formed an important part of the population. This religious and ethnic group had deep roots in the local history and shaped the region's social fabric substantially.
