Waterfalls Park, Edessa, Urban park with waterfalls in Edessa, Greece
Waterfalls Park in Edessa is an urban park in northern Greece where multiple waterfalls cascade down natural rock formations throughout the wooded space. Stone pathways and viewing platforms guide visitors through the terrain and offer different vantage points to observe the falling water.
The waterfalls were created by an earthquake in the 14th century that fractured the rock and allowed water to cascade downward. In the 19th century, these falling waters powered mills and workshops that supported the local economy.
The park includes sections of the ancient Egnatia road that connected Edessa to Thessaloniki, preserving this historical trade route.
The park can be explored on foot through several kilometers of trails cut into the rock, offering varying levels of walking difficulty. Wear sturdy shoes because the paths can become slippery when wet from the spray and moisture.
At one waterfall, visitors can walk behind the falling water and see the cascade from inside the water curtain. This allows people to experience the waterfall from an unusual perspective rarely possible in nature.
