Thermos, Ancient Greek sanctuary in Thermo Municipality, Greece
The Temple of Apollo features a rectangular cella divided into two naves, with original wooden entablature and terracotta metopes depicting mythological scenes.
The temple replaced Megaron B during the seventh century BCE, incorporating earlier architectural elements and religious structures dating back to 1500 BCE.
Archaeological findings at the site reveal religious practices through terracotta figurines, funeral rituals, and evidence of elite residential structures.
The archaeological site maintains visible layers of different construction periods, allowing visitors to examine the evolution of Greek temple architecture.
This temple stands as the only known pentastyle example in the region, combining both Doric style elements and traditional wooden construction techniques.
