Thermos

Thermos is an ancient Greek sanctuary in Thermo Municipality featuring the remains of a temple with a rectangular structure and original wooden architectural elements. The archaeological layers at the site reveal how the sanctuary evolved through different construction phases over many centuries.

The sanctuary began around 1500 BCE and underwent several construction phases before a new temple was built in the seventh century BCE. This later temple integrated older religious structures, showing how the site remained important across many centuries.

This sanctuary served as a gathering place where communities came to make offerings and honor their gods through religious ceremonies. The terracotta offerings left behind reveal how people of different backgrounds visited to ask for blessings or give thanks.

The site is easy to walk through and the archaeological remains are clearly visible, making it simple to understand the different construction periods. Wear appropriate footwear as the terrain is uneven and can become slippery when wet.

Rare wooden construction elements have been preserved at the site, showing how Greek builders used traditional craftsmanship techniques. These wooden details are rarely found at other temples, making this place valuable for understanding ancient building methods.
