Yeni Mosque, Larissa, Former mosque and archaeological museum in Larissa, Greece.

The Yeni Mosque in Larissa is a square building with nine arched windows and a four-sided tiled roof. Its entrance has a tripartite portico covered by three half-domes, and the minaret on the northwestern corner survives up to the balcony. From the late 1950s to 2011 it housed the Larissa Archaeological Museum.

The building served the local Muslim community until 1924, when they left following the population exchange between Greece and Turkey. It was later adapted for use as a library and then as a museum.

The building recalls the Muslim community that worshipped and lived here until 1924. Today the space tells the story of a multicultural chapter in the city's past.

The building sits centrally in Larissa and is easy to reach on foot. Allow time to walk through the exhibition spaces and take in the displayed collections.

The minaret on the northwestern corner survives only up to its balcony, so the tower stops short of the top. The earthquakes of 1941, 1955, 1957, 1980 and 2021 all damaged the building, and the prayer hall's nine arched windows and the tripartite portico with three half-domes remain the features to look for.
