Church of Elkomenos Christos, Byzantine church in Monemvasia, Greece.
The Church of Elkomenos Christos features a central dome, three semi-circular arches to the east, and a domed narthex with a bell tower on its northwest side.
Built in 1697 upon an earlier structure from the 6th century, the church underwent modifications including the addition of buttresses in 1539 and a bell tower in the 18th century.
The interior displays post-Byzantine icons from the 17th and 18th centuries, including representations of Christ in chains and the Virgin before the Cross on the altar screen.
Located in the main square of Lower Town Monemvasia, the church opens daily from March through October, with morning sessions from 10:00 to 15:00 and evening hours from 16:30 to 19:30.
Two thrones positioned at the church entrance were specifically designated for the Byzantine Emperor and Empress, highlighting the building's imperial connections.
