Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, Art museum in 1st arrondissement of Lyon, France
The Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon occupies a former Benedictine convent from the 17th century, featuring 35 rooms of European artworks across multiple floors.
The museum initiated operations in 1801 after the French Revolution, when the building transformed from a royal abbey into a public cultural institution.
The museum collection includes 700 displayed paintings, 1300 sculptures, Egyptian antiquities, and the second-largest numismatic collection in France with 50,000 pieces.
The museum opens Wednesday through Monday from 10:00 to 18:00, with a later start at 10:30 on Fridays, and remains closed on Tuesdays and public holidays.
The museum houses a medieval refectory with baroque decorations and maintains a municipal garden within its premises for visitors to explore between exhibitions.
