Seebach, Rural commune in Bas-Rhin, France
Seebach is a rural commune in northern Alsace with agricultural fields, traditional half-timbered houses, and a Protestant temple from the 1700s. The village displays the typical appearance of a small Alsatian settlement with its distinctive architecture and farming-based surroundings.
The two villages of Ober and Nieder-Seebach, first recorded in 967, merged into one commune in 1974 after centuries of separate administration. This union ended a long period of divided governance within the same region.
The annual Streisselhochzeit festival showcases traditional Alsatian folk dances, songs, and regional food specialties that remain central to village life. Visitors experience the crafts and social customs that continue to define the community today.
The commune is accessible via departmental roads from Wissembourg and has basic services at the town hall in the village center. Visitors will find a rural setting ideal for walking and exploring the farmland around the area.
The commune sits within the Regional Natural Park of Northern Vosges, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve where conservation and farming coexist. About nine tenths of the land remains in agricultural use, preserving the rural character of the place.
