Selestat, Administrative division in Grand Est, France

The administrative territory of Schirmeck encompasses 111 hectares along the Bruche River, surrounded by the mountains of northeastern France.

The administrative division emerged in 1315 as Schirmecke, developing into a settlement after Bishop Berthold I of Teck acquired the land from Nordgau counts.

The territory combines French and German influences through its administrative structure, reflecting the complex heritage of the Alsace-Lorraine region.

The canton of Schirmeck merged into the canton of Mutzig following the 2014 administrative reform, affecting local governance for 16 municipalities.

The administrative area includes mineral-rich Devonian Dinant rocks and reaches elevations of 832 meters at the Évêché hills.
