Saint-Louis de la Salpêtrière, 17th-century chapel in Quartier de la Salpêtrière, France

The Saint-Louis chapel features four equal-length naves forming a Greek cross pattern, with an octagonal dome rising 52 meters above the central space.

Louis XIV commissioned architect Louis Le Vau to design this chapel in December 1669 as part of the General Hospital, which housed thousands of Paris residents.

The chapel contains dedicated spaces for Saint-Vincent, Good Shepherd, Virgin Mary, and Sainte-Geneviève, representing different aspects of Catholic worship.

Visitors can attend daily mass from Monday to Saturday at 3 PM and Sunday services at 9:30 AM, with general access between 9:30 AM and 6 PM.

The architectural design separated different social groups during religious services through distinct gathering spaces within the four main naves.
