Cité de la mode et du design, Fashion and design center in 13th arrondissement, France
The Cité de la mode et du design is a contemporary building along the Seine with four floors, expansive glass surfaces, and green exterior elements. The structure houses exhibition spaces, offices, and learning areas beneath a glass roof that filters natural light throughout.
The building emerged from the transformation of former industrial docks along the Seine and opened in 2010 following designs by architects Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane. This conversion repurposed an abandoned port area into a vibrant space dedicated to fashion and creativity.
The building houses the Institut Français de la Mode, which trains fashion professionals and researches industry trends. Visitors can see exhibitions that showcase how fashion and design connect to everyday life.
The building sits at Quai d'Austerlitz and offers direct access from Gare d'Austerlitz station. Opening hours extend from morning into late evening, allowing flexible visiting times.
The rooftop terrace, designed by Michel Desvignes, offers views of the Seine and hosts DJ performances and temporary exhibitions. This outdoor space stands apart from the rest of the building and serves as a gathering spot for visitors and events.
