Fort-Mahon-Plage

Fort-Mahon-Plage is a coastal resort town in Somme that stretches along a substantial length of sandy beach lined with sand dunes. The landscape combines wide, flat shoreline with rolling sand hills and open, natural coastal scenery.

The town began in the late 1700s as simple shepherd and fishing huts and became an independent commune in 1922. This separation from the nearby village of Quend marked the start of its development as a distinct settlement.

The town takes its name from a former fort that once guarded the bay, connecting it to its coastal defense heritage. Visitors can sense the local bond with the sea in the many restaurants where fresh fish and seafood dominate the menus.

The main beachfront street provides direct access to shops, cafes, and essential services for day visits. The flat terrain makes exploring on foot or by bike straightforward and gives visitors flexibility in planning their activities.
