Port of La Madelon, marina in France
Port of La Madelon is a small marina on the Authie river near the mouth where it meets the sea, located between Waben and Groffliers. The site has a simple dock next to a parking area, with electric hookups and freshwater access for boaters.
This location was once an active fishing port protected by an old castle at Waben and drew many fishermen in medieval times. Over centuries, sand and silt filled the Authie bay, making navigation difficult for traditional fishing boats and gradually transforming the port into a leisure marina.
The port takes its name from its location at the mouth of the Authie river and remains a gathering point where locals spend quiet moments by the water. Today it serves as a place where people connect with nature and each other in a low-key, unhurried way.
The site is easiest to reach by personal transport using the onsite parking area. Visitors should bring waterproof jackets and suitable footwear, as weather can change quickly and the ground near the water remains damp throughout much of the year.
A traditional boat called La Marianne Toute Seule, a replica of an old Berck fishing vessel, was once moored here for many years. The boat now rests in a shed but remains a tangible link to the region's fishing heritage.
