EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, International airport in Saint-Louis, France
EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is an international airport in Saint-Louis serving passengers from three countries through separate terminal zones. The complex includes two departure halls, several gates, and connecting routes leading into French and Swiss territory.
The airport opened in January 1946 after France provided the land and Switzerland built the runways and buildings. This cross-border collaboration laid the foundation for today's binational management structure.
The multilingual signage throughout the terminals reflects the cross-border character of the airport, used daily by French, Swiss, and German travelers. At the counters and information points, you regularly hear all three languages spoken in turn.
Regular bus services from Basel's main station reach the airport in around 18 minutes with frequent departures throughout the day. The French entrance sits directly along the main access road, while the Swiss sector is accessible via a separate ramp.
The airport grounds contain two separate customs areas allowing travelers to enter either French or Swiss territory after landing. This arrangement made it the first fully binational airport in the world.
