Voiron, Administrative commune in Isère, France

Voiron is a town in southeastern France located about 23 kilometers northwest of Grenoble, sitting at roughly 290 meters elevation. The center revolves around the Church of Saint-Bruno, with residential neighborhoods and small shops spreading outward through the surrounding valley.

The town transferred from the County of Savoy to French control through the Treaty of Paris in 1355, a shift that tied it to French administration. This political change shaped the region's development and its cultural connections over the following centuries.

The Church of Saint-Bruno dominates the town center with its pointed arches and ornate stonework, reflecting the influence of the nearby Grande Chartreuse monastery. Local religious life has revolved around this building since monks contributed to its construction.

The Wednesday market in the center offers fresh produce and regional goods that draw locals and visitors throughout the day. The town center is relatively compact and flat, making it easy to explore on foot and find your way around.

The town is home to the world's largest Chartreuse cellars, where the famous green liqueur is aged and produced underground. Visitors can walk through these underground chambers during summer months and learn about this distinctive production method.
