Valenton is a small commune in the Île-de-France region within Val-de-Marne. It spans across numerous parks and green spaces, including the Plage Bleue with its water area of about 8 hectares, along with other zones like Champ Saint Julien featuring sports facilities and fruit orchards.
Valenton was founded more than a thousand years ago and developed in the Middle Ages with two small lordships whose inhabitants mainly grew grapes. During the 18th and 19th centuries, grand estates like Château des Tourelles and Château des Charmilles emerged, reflecting the prosperity of the era.
Valenton reflects its medieval roots through its name and local traditions. The town gathers residents around its green spaces and annual celebrations like Festivalenton, a music festival where neighbors come together to share concerts, performances, and community moments that strengthen local bonds.
The town is accessible from Paris via the RER D train, stopping at Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, from where buses connect to the town and parks. The terrain is flat and easy to explore on foot or by bike, with the 20-kilometer Vegetal trail linking different areas.
After World War II, Fernande Flagon became one of France's first female mayors and led the rebuilding and construction of new housing. Her leadership brought many workers from Paris to the growing town and shaped its modern development significantly.
