Poma 2000, Rubber-tyred metro system in Laon, France

The transport system connected the lower city area to the upper medieval district through three stations over a 1.5-kilometer track length.

Operating from February 1989 to August 2016, this automated cable-driven system replaced the former rack railway that served Laon from 1899 to 1971.

The transport network enhanced local commerce by connecting the train station area with the medieval upper town, where the Gothic cathedral stands.

The system featured four cabins with twelve seats each, completing the journey between stations in three and a half minutes at regular intervals.

The transport combined characteristics of both funicular and rubber-tyred metro technologies, making it a prototype developed by Pomagalski company.
