Sochaux

Sochaux is a commune in the Doubs department situated at about 317 meters elevation in eastern France. It sits alongside Vieux-Charmont and Montbéliard, forming part of an industrial corridor.

The area was shaped by the Peugeot factory, which became a major production center in the early 1900s. During World War II, British bombing in 1943 damaged much of the facility.

The Peugeot Museum displays vehicles spanning decades and tells the story of how French car manufacturing developed. Visitors can see how production techniques and design choices changed over time.

The town has four public schools and several medical practitioners available for healthcare needs. A weekly market runs every Thursday and offers local goods to residents and visitors.

The factory employed thousands of workers for decades and shaped daily life across the entire region. Today, the old factory halls and industrial structures stand as reminders of that era of mass production.
