The Musée de l'Aventure Peugeot occupies a converted workshop on the edge of the Sochaux industrial site, with 10,000 m² open to the public out of 45,000 m² of exhibition space. About 130 of its 450 vehicles are on display at any one time, alongside roughly 50 of its 300 cycles and motorcycles and 3,000 Peugeot-stamped objects. Inside, a low ceiling of pale panels with recessed lights and a deep red band above dark wall panels frames the cars.
The museum was founded in 1988 and documents the company's development starting from 1810 when it began as a tool maker. From this craft-based origin, it later expanded into diverse products and finally the automotive industry that made the company known worldwide.
The collection shows products from different fields like coffee grinders, sewing machines, and bicycles that reflect the company's diverse manufacturing across three centuries. These objects tell the story of craft tradition and industrial development in France.
The museum stands on the edge of Peugeot's historic Sochaux works, across from the Stade Auguste-Bonal, and its 10,000 m² of displays are spread over a single large hall. Audio guides have been available since 2008, and from 2010 a mobile-phone virtual tour covered eight cars. Allow several hours to see the roughly 130 exhibited vehicles.
The museum's restoration workshop occupies the former Sochaux brewery building where the collection was installed in 1984, and it is not open to visitors. The archive centre at Terre Blanche in Hérimoncourt, set in an 1833 Peugeot factory, is likewise closed to the public.
