The old town is easy to explore on foot, with the castle and church forming the natural center of any walk. For those who want to spend time outdoors, the Sioule river nearby offers walking paths and canoeing.
The area around Gannat has yielded important fossil finds, which led to the creation of the paleontology center Paleapolis. This makes the town an unexpected stop for anyone drawn to the story of life millions of years ago.
