Mèze

Mèze is a port town on the Étang de Thau lagoon, where residential and working spaces connect directly to the water. The harbor functions as a hub for fishing boats and recreational sailors who navigate the shallow waters daily.

The Roman road Via Domitia once passed through the region, bringing southern trade connections and new farming methods to the area. These early links shaped how people organized work and settlement around commerce and agriculture.

The town is easily reached by road or rail and offers direct access to walking paths along the lagoon. Visitors should have footwear suitable for wet ground, especially when exploring the waterfront areas.

The Lagunage facility uses natural water treatment systems to clean wastewater while creating wetland habitats for birds and plants. This approach shows how ecological practices can solve practical problems without modern infrastructure.
