The Altenberg de Bergheim vineyard stretches across 35 hectares of south-facing slopes, rising from 220 to 320 meters in elevation north of Colmar.
The vineyard's reputation for producing fine wines dates back to the 13th century, and it received its official Grand Cru classification in 1983.
Local winemakers maintain traditions while crafting varietal wines and blends from Gewurztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Gris grapes in this distinguished Alsace region.
The vineyard's soil composition includes Jurassic marl-limestone covered with red calcareous clay, enhanced by gypsum deposits that improve water retention.
This Grand Cru vineyard stands as the only one in Alsace permitted to incorporate Pinot Noir grapes in its wine production.
