Pegasus Bridge, Rolling lift bridge in Bénouville, France

The Pegasus Bridge spans 45.70 meters across the Caen Canal, featuring a mechanical system that allows the structure to lift for maritime traffic passage.

British paratroopers of the 6th Airborne Division captured this strategic bridge on June 6, 1944, during the first minutes of Operation Overlord in Normandy.

The Memorial Museum near the bridge displays the original 1934 structure, military artifacts, and a Horsa glider replica used during the D-Day operation.

Visitors can access guided tours of the bridge and museum between February and December, with extended hours during the summer tourist season.

Lieutenant Den Brotheridge became the first Allied soldier to die on D-Day while leading the assault to capture this bridge in the early hours.
