Domps, Rural commune in Haute-Vienne, France.
Domps is a commune in the département of Haute-Vienne, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of western France. The settlement sits on sloping terrain that rises from valleys to rounded hilltops, with scattered hamlets and farmland spread across the countryside.
The commune developed around farming and small hamlets, following the administrative organization established after the French Revolution. Writer Jean Blanzat, who joined the Resistance during the Second World War, was born here in 1906, bringing the name of the village to a wider public.
The inhabitants of this French commune, known as Dompsois and Dompsoises, maintain local traditions through communal gatherings and regional festivities.
The town hall in the hamlet of Le Bourg handles administrative matters for residents and provides basic information for visitors passing through. The commune is reached by narrow country roads that wind through rolling hills, offering open views of the surrounding farmland and woodland.
The commune has around seven people per square kilometer, meaning that much of the territory feels open and almost empty when you walk through it. This low density creates a sense of calm where the main sounds come from birds, farm animals, and the wind moving through the trees.
