Bibracte, Archaeological site on Mount Beuvray, France
Bibracte is an archaeological complex on Mount Beuvray containing the remains of an ancient Celtic settlement. The site spans 200 hectares of wooded terrain and preserves the footprints of streets, dwellings, workshops, and defensive walls.
The settlement flourished as the capital of the Aedui tribe during the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Its inhabitants later abandoned the site to establish a new city elsewhere in the region.
The museum displays showcase how Celtic people lived and worked here, revealing their crafts, trade connections, and spiritual practices through objects and reconstructions.
The site provides 15 kilometers of marked walking paths that visitors can explore with an interactive mobile application. The app displays the layout of the ancient city as you walk, making navigation straightforward.
The on-site restaurant Le Chaudron prepares meals using ingredients and cooking methods based on archaeological research into Celtic cuisine. This offers a rare chance to taste how people ate and drank two thousand years ago.
