Stade de la Mosson, Multi-purpose sports venue in La Paillade, Montpellier, France
Stade de la Mosson is a multi-purpose sports venue in the La Paillade neighborhood of Montpellier, holding 32,900 spectators and featuring a three-tiered main stand. The playing surface uses hybrid grass, a combination of natural turf and synthetic fibers for improved durability.
The facility opened on 13 January 1972 with an original capacity of 16,000 seats. A complete renovation took place for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, transforming the stadium into its current form.
The Mosson river runs close to the facility and gave it its name, linking the structure to Montpellier's geography. On match days, supporters gather in the surrounding streets and create an atmosphere that extends beyond the venue itself.
From the city center, the stadium can be reached by tram line 1, with Mosson stop right at the entrance. It is advisable to arrive earlier on match days, as trams become busier before kickoff.
In October 2014, severe flooding caused damage to the grounds, leading to the temporary relocation of five matches to Altrad Stadium. The repairs took several weeks and included replacing damaged infrastructure beneath the stands.
