St Croix Church of Celleneuve, Romanesque church in Celleneuve, Montpellier, France.

St Croix Church of Celleneuve is a Romanesque structure featuring thick stone walls, rounded arches, and a distinctive inverted double-pitched roof. The building stands near the Mosson river and remains an active place of worship today.

Monks from Aniane Abbey built this structure in the 12th century to replace a Carolingian chapel known as cella nova. The building was officially recognized as a historical monument in 1840, making it one of the area's earliest religious sites.

The building serves an Orthodox community that holds monthly liturgical services in French within its medieval walls. This use creates a distinctive space where Eastern religious traditions are practiced inside a Romanesque structure.

The church is situated in the Celleneuve district close to the Mosson river, in the area of the ancient Roman road Via Domitia. Since the building is actively used for worship, visitors should check service times and dress respectfully when entering.

This is the only Romanesque structure in Montpellier that continues to host regular religious services today. Its survival as an active place of worship makes it exceptionally rare among the city's medieval religious buildings.
