Gondole

Gondole is a fortified settlement standing where the Allier and Auzon rivers meet. The site spans a large area with defensive walls and surrounding zones where people built houses and carried out different activities.

Excavations uncovered burials of warriors and their horses from around 2000 years ago. These finds belong to a period when the region was inhabited by Celtic peoples.

The remains reveal how craftspeople and residents shared this space and worked together. Walking through the excavated areas shows this was more than a simple settlement, it was a busy production center where people made things alongside their homes.

The site is walkable and offers several areas to explore, both within and beyond the defensive walls. It is wise to allow time for different sections of the site since the area is spread out.

A large structure was discovered here that appears to have served as a gathering place for communal religious events of the community. The evidence points to people coming together for shared meals and group rituals.
