Sées, Historic commune in Orne, France
Sées is a French commune in Normandy that spreads across gently rolling countryside near the Orne River. Medieval buildings and narrow streets form the town center, with the Cathedral standing as its most notable structure.
The settlement served as a capital of a Gaulish tribe and took its name from the Latin term Civitas Sagiensis before becoming a fortified town. In the Middle Ages it developed into an important religious center with the construction of the Cathedral.
The Cathedral of Sées shapes the town's appearance with its Gothic architecture and two distinctive spires that have dominated the skyline for centuries.
The train station offers connections to larger regional cities, making arrival and departure straightforward. The Saturday market in the town center is a good way to experience local life and discover regional products.
The departmental museum of religious art houses over 2000 religious artifacts, making it one of the largest collections of its kind in the region. Visitors find a rare gathering of objects that document the history of religious art across centuries.
