Erquy

Erquy is a coastal commune in Brittany featuring distinctive pink sandstone cliffs and several fine sand beaches. The landscape includes heathland and pine forests interspersed with natural coves along the shore.

The settlement began in the 12th century around a church and a feudal mound. It gradually developed into a harbor that shipped agricultural goods to neighboring regions.

The town is deeply connected to shellfish fishing, which shapes the daily rhythm and character of the place. The harbor area reflects the fishing tradition that remains central to local life.

The town center is walkable and beaches are easily reached from the main area. Visitors should be aware of tides, as they affect beach access and harbor activities throughout the day.

Since 1962, the harbor has grown into one of Europe's major shellfish fishing ports with a specialized fleet. This working port remains active and bustling, not merely a tourist attraction.
