Lods, Medieval commune in Loue Valley, France

Lods is a commune in the Doubs region situated along the Loue River. The settlement spreads across varied elevations with stone buildings and several waterfalls that flow through the valley.

Lods is documented in written records from 1189, though archaeological finds show people lived here as early as the fifth century. The wine industry became central to the local economy for centuries until disease devastated the vineyards.

The village has a museum dedicated to wine production, showing how this craft once shaped local life and identity. Walking through the exhibits reveals how deeply vineyards were woven into daily routines and the landscape itself.

The riverside location can mean flooding during heavy rain, so checking weather conditions before visiting is wise. Good footwear is recommended as paths through the valley can be steep and uneven in places.

The village runs a bread delivery service that arrives three times weekly during early morning hours. This unusual convenience keeps alive a local tradition that has vanished in most other places.
