Azé, Delegated commune in Mayenne department, France.
Azé is a delegated commune covering approximately 29.67 square kilometers in the Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire region, situated at an elevation of 62 meters above sea level.
The commune was historically part of the Angevin seneschalship of Château-Gontier and belonged to Haut-Anjou before being integrated into the Mayenne department during the French administrative reorganization of 1790.
The Saint-Saturnin church, built between the 11th and 17th centuries, houses remarkable medieval frescoes from the 12th and 13th centuries depicting Christ surrounded by evangelical symbols and peacocks.
Since January 1, 2019, Azé merged with Château-Gontier and Saint-Fort to form the new commune of Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne, with administrative services now centralized in this larger entity.
The commune operates a biogas facility managed by Evergaz that produces renewable energy from organic waste and supplies a local service station with sustainable fuel.
