Saint-Justin

Saint-Justin is a medieval founded town in the Landes with a rectangular layout and stone houses arranged around arcaded passages. The facades display half-timbered construction and mullioned windows that maintain the architectural coherence of the settlement.

The town originated in 1280 from an agreement between the Viscountess of Marsan and the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. This planned settlement gradually developed into an important center in the region.

The community here values neighborly connections that shape daily life and local gatherings. Residents maintain these bonds through regular meetings and events that bring people together throughout the year.

The rampart structures and pathways can be explored on foot and serve as helpful orientation points. Walking slowly through the narrow streets allows you to notice architectural details and the overall layout.

The settlement preserves three octagonal towers that belonged to the original defensive system. This unusual form of fortified architecture makes Saint-Justin stand out among French bastides.
