Château de Termes

Château de Termes is a castle ruin perched on a rocky outcrop in the Corbières region, overlooking ravines and valleys. The remains reveal the layout of the medieval fortress with multiple towers and walls spread across the rocky terrain.

The fortress emerged in the Middle Ages as a defensive stronghold and became the site of a famous siege in 1210. After its capture, it gradually lost strategic importance and deteriorated into the visible ruins seen today.

The fortress represents resistance against medieval religious conflicts and has deep roots in the region's identity. Visitors can explore remnants of a place that sheltered communities through turbulent centuries.

Access is through a village welcome center that offers exhibitions and information. From there, a short walk leads to the ruins themselves, and visitors should wear sturdy footwear for the uneven, rocky terrain.

Beneath the stones lie traces of an entire settlement that once stood on the hillside. About 800 years ago, residents were relocated down to the valley, and today archaeological work can reveal this hidden past.
