Château de Vendôme

The Château de Vendôme is a castle ruin perched on a hilltop overlooking the Loir River, with several stone walls and towers defining its layout. The medieval fortification includes the remains of a former collegiate church within its enclosure, creating a layered complex that shows multiple periods of construction.

The fortification originated in the 11th century as a strategic military structure overlooking the river. It later became the seat of the Bourbon-Vendôme family, whose members eventually rose to rule France itself.
