Château de Sassenage, Classified historic monument in Sassenage, France

The limestone and molasse stone castle features classic architecture with a grand balustraded staircase and vaulted kitchen containing a monumental fireplace.

Built between 1662 and 1669 by architect Laurent Sommaire, the castle replaced a 13th-century fortress at the entrance of an eight-hectare wooded estate.

The interior displays original furnishings and paintings, including a series depicting the goddess Psyche based on designs from Villa Farnesina in Rome.

From July 14 to August 15, guided tours operate Sunday through Thursday at 3 PM, 4 PM, and 5 PM, with regular monthly tours on first Sundays at 10:30 AM.

The surrounding park preserves ancient cedars and black walnut trees, contributing to the botanical significance of the estate.
