Clermont Auvergne University, French university (2020-)
Clermont Auvergne University is a large institution in Clermont-Ferrand combining modern and older buildings with classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and common areas. The campus spreads across several locations in the region, including the main Carnot, Gergovia, and Cézeaux campuses as well as smaller branches in surrounding towns.
The university was formed in 2017 through the merger of Blaise Pascal University and the University of Auvergne, which had been separate since 1976. This reunification combined two long-independent institutions under one name and aimed to consolidate teaching programs and research activities.
The university's name honors the historical Auvergne region and represents the union of two academic institutions. You see students from many countries studying together in groups, having discussions, and gathering in the open areas throughout the campus.
The university is centrally located in Clermont-Ferrand and easily walkable, with additional sites spread to the south and in nearby towns. Visitors can explore the green spaces, cafes, and open areas, and it helps to allow some time to get to know the different building complexes.
The university operates a specialized campus in Vichy, famous for its spa waters, where training and research programs focused on health and wellness are offered. This specialization connects academic study with the town's reputation for therapeutic treatments.
