La Ferté Abbey, Cistercian monastery in Saint-Ambreuil, France

The main structure of La Ferté Abbey consists of an 18th-century abbot's residence, now known as the Château de la Ferté, displaying classical architectural elements.

Founded in 1113 by Stephen Harding, this monastery became the first daughter house of Cîteaux Abbey and remained active until its dissolution during the French Revolution in 1791.

The monastery established multiple daughter houses across Europe and the Middle East, including Maizières Abbey in France, Tiglieto Abbey in Italy, and St Sergius's Abbey in Lebanon.

The site received official recognition as a monument historique in 1993, ensuring its preservation and protection under French heritage conservation laws.

The abbey stood between the forest of Bragny and the marshy lands of the Grosne, receiving substantial support from the Dukes of Burgundy and the family of Gros de Brancion.
