Orléans Cathedral, Catholic cathedral in Orléans, France

The Cathedral of Orléans extends 114 meters high with three main rose windows adorning its entrance and two additional ones on the sides.

Construction of the current cathedral began in 1601 under Henry IV's reign, following multiple building phases, and reached completion in 1829.

The cathedral features detailed stained glass windows that tell biblical narratives and maintains regular religious ceremonies throughout the year.

Located in central Orléans, the cathedral opens its doors daily for both religious services and architectural tours of its Gothic structure.

Architect Étienne Martellange designed this cathedral with less pointed towers than typical Gothic structures, creating a distinct silhouette in the city landscape.

Walking in Orléans: between stone and Loire where every street has a story to tell

People often think they know Orleans, but the city always has something to tell. Behind its impressive cathedral, one discovers a lively old town with cobbled streets, half-timbered facades, and squares perfect for stopping. The history blends with the enjoyment of life: Joan of Arc still watches over the Place du Martroi, museums reveal their hidden treasures, and the banks of the Loire invite sunny walks. Along the quays, you encounter gardens, churches, Renaissance houses, and busy weekend markets. The city has maintained its calm pace without ceasing to surprise, balancing heritage, culture, and nature. Orleans is best explored at a slow pace, the one preferred by those who enjoy observing details, breathing the river air, and rediscovering their own city at every corner.
