Departmental Conservatory of Orleans, Historic music conservatory in central Orleans, France

The Departmental Conservatory of Orleans is a music education building in central Orleans housing classrooms, practice spaces, and performance venues. The facility accommodates instruction in various instruments and vocal training alongside regular concerts.

A music academy existed in Orléans from 20 April 1670, housed in a building on the site of an old Protestant cemetery on rue des Huguenots, near the grand mail stairway. The present institution only took the title école nationale de musique in 1968, and since 2006 it has been a conservatoire à rayonnement départemental for music, dance and theatre.

The name changed in 2006: formerly an école nationale de musique since 1968, it became a conservatoire à rayonnement départemental, teaching music, dance and theatre. Orléans had a musique academy as early as 1670, placed in a building on the site of an old Protestant cemetery, rue des Huguenots, near the grand mail stairway.

The conservatory occupies a three-storey light stone building with a dark hipped roof, a triangular pediment and arched ground-floor openings, set behind a low stone wall. Its official name since 2006 is conservatoire à rayonnement départemental de musique, de danse et de théâtre d'Orléans. The building serves mainly for instruction, so check in advance whether a public concert is scheduled.
