The first documented mention of Bonnes dates back to 1173 in a charter of the Abbey of l'Étoile, then it appears in 1309 in the cartulary of the bishopric of Poitiers under the Latin name Capellanus de Bonis.
The 12th-century Saint-André church, rebuilt after an 18th-century earthquake, houses a 1668 holy water font and ancient coats of arms of the noble Montléon and Chasteigner families in its side chapel.
