Gourette, Ski resort in Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France
Gourette is a ski resort in the Pyrenees with runs between 1,400 and 2,450 meters (4,600 to 8,000 feet) in elevation. The terrain covers about 90 hectares and includes 30 marked slopes ranging from green to black in difficulty.
The ski area began developing in the 1930s as the sport grew in popularity in the region. Hotels were built afterward to welcome visitors traveling from nearby cities like Bordeaux.
The location is closely linked to cycling culture and transforms into a popular cycling destination during summer months, especially because of the road to Col d'Aubisque. This route regularly features in the Tour de France, attracting riders and fans year after year.
The terrain offers different areas for various skill levels: beginners find dedicated training zones, while experienced skiers can tackle more technical slopes. The best time to ski is during winter months when snow cover is adequate.
The long-distance hiking trail GR10 passes through the area and links it to natural features like Lac d'Anglas and Cascade de Ley. Hikers can explore this route during snow-free months and discover both mountain views and waterfall landscapes.
