Heidenkopf, Historic mountain site in Bas-Rhin, France

The Heidenkopf mountain stretches to an elevation of 787 meters between the Magel Valley and Saint-Odile Mountain massif in northeastern France.

The summit contains archaeological evidence of continuous human presence from the Neolithic period through the Middle Ages, indicating long-term settlement patterns.

The name Heidenkopf combines German words 'heiden' meaning pagan and 'kopf' meaning head, reflecting the linguistic heritage of the Alsace region.

The Club Vosgien maintains marked hiking trails leading to the summit, where visitors can climb the 17-meter Mündel Tower for panoramic views.

From the tower's observation platform, visitors can see the Alsace plain, Black Forest, and numerous castles including Donon and Ungersberg.
